Abstract:

Statistical programmers in Eli Lilly play a vital role in clinical trial reporting for the drug development. Since the start of this role in 2000 it has established & exhibited a distinct career. Apart from stat programming activities that mainly include developing TFLs & managing outsourcing, the statistics organization has emphasized on using innovation & leadership development. An Advanced Analytic hub has been created, where stat programmers have huge opportunity to participate & lead the innovative ideas & statistical methodology in important decision making. The organization have also created a leadership development program to improve ability to lead & influence innovation; increase involvement in critical decision making; & attract, develop, & retain talented stat programmers. Because of the two programs, big changes have occurred for the career of the stat programmers. Their conscious efforts on communication & improving influence have really made a difference." This leadership development program, part of a comprehensive strategic effort started 4 years ago, has had measurable impact on raising the floor (i.e., increased expectations & performance) for stat programmers.
