Abstract:

The Birnbaum-Saunders distribution has been used quite effectively to model positively skewed lifetime data. In this paper, we present a frailty model using the BS distribution as the frailty distribution. We carry out maximum likelihood estimation in the model either by Monte Carlo simulation or by quadrature method. Next, the performance of the proposed frailty model is examined by a simulation study. Finally, a numerical data analysis is performed in order to demonstrate the merits of proposed model.
