Author(s): Tonja Kyle*+ and Alicia Edwards
Companies: ICF and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Keywords: DCC ; Data Management
Abstract:

This presentation describes the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) domestic HIV Supplemental Surveillance Systems and the Data Coordinating Center (DCC) that supports their data life cycle. The National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System (NHBS) and the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP) are the two largest HIV supplemental surveillance systems funded by CDC. NHBS annually collects data from >9,000 individuals at risk for HIV infection; MMP annually collects data from ~4000 individuals living with and receiving care for HIV infection. These systems provide state and local health agencies with data to develop HIV prevention/treatment programs responsive to the needs of their communities and make critical contributions to monitoring national progress with CDC's strategic plan for high-impact HIV prevention. The DCC provides data management and processing, sampling, weighting, reporting, training, and TA support to participating health departments and CDC for production and maintenance of high-quality datasets from these systems. This presentation provides an overview of the DCC components, the keys to their successful implementation, and the its critical products.
