Abstract:
|
We describe two different approaches to introducing statistical inference using resampling (bootstrap and randomization test) methods in introductory statistics courses. We discuss points of agreement between our approaches and also highlight differences. Some of the issues to be considered include: - sequence of topics for introduce concepts of inference in the course; - roles of bootstrapping and randomization tests; - necessary and desirable features of technology for implementing such an approach; - whether and how to connect randomness in data collection to inference method; - whether, when, and how to introduce normal-based techniques.
