Abstract:
|
An extreme weather event is an event that occurs with a small probability. It is an interesting problem to study the extreme events across a region in the presence of climate change. The generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution has been used to model maxima of variables such as temperature and precipitation given observations at a single site. However, it is a harder problem to incorporate spatial correlations in the model for spatio-temporal extremes. In this talk, we analyze the extreme events in terms of temperature and precipitation based on observations at 750 weather stations across China, and apply spatial interpolation to study the regional pattern of extreme events.
