Abstract:

During the course of an academic pursuit in obtaining a statistics degree, one learns many tools, techniques, methods and theories. Even though these knowledge and skill sets are extremely valuable and useful, this presentation describes examples where critical thinking and ability to adapt and to be a self-learner are just as crucial to be successful in industry. Applications from several industries would be used to illustrate challenges that practicing statisticians and data scientists face regularly.
