Abstract:
|
In October 2011, high profile social psychologist Diederik Stapel (later named the "Dutch King of Data" in the media) confessed to having fabricated some of the results and datasets in his papers. The academic community was taken by surprise, and the rectors of the three universities involved launched a full investigation into all scientific publications of Stapel and his coauthors, with a special focus on the theses by his PhD-students. In this contribution, I will give an overview of this investigation, the responses of different stakeholders, and discuss the role of statistics in this investigation.
