Author(s): Eileen King*+

Keywords: concept of power ; clinically meaningful difference
Abstract:

Multi-disciplinary team collaborations are essential for successful medical research studies. These collaborations provide ample opportunity for teaching important statistical concepts to our scientific colleagues, as well as learning the science from our colleagues. My experience as a consulting statistician in industry and medical academia has shown that a pictorial representation of an important statistical concept is most effective. Important, but often misunderstood, are the concepts of power, clinically meaningful difference, and statistical testing. Pictorial representations of these concepts will be demonstrated and discussed.
