Abstract:
|
Statisticians in health policy research are positioned to bring intellectual leadership to both statistics and policy research. They contribute as authors, referees, and editors to a wide variety of peer-reviewed journals along the continuum from statistical methods to policy research. In this roundtable, two health policy statisticians will facilitate a discussion of strategies for publishing and editorial service. Examples of topics to be addressed include identifying a set of journals of interest to health policy statisticians, outlining the goals of statistical versus substantive journals, determining the correct publication target for one's work, pursuing first authorship of papers in substantive journals, and contributing to any journal as a referee or an editor. This talk is motivated by the facilitators' experiences as statisticians in health policy research. However, the ideas generated are broadly applicable to applied statisticians in other areas.
