Abstract:

It has been always a challenge to statisticians working in preclinical and nonclinical areas to have a large impact in drug development and research given the extremely limited resources: small number of statisticians vs. large number of scientists coming from a variety of disciplines. Over the past several years our small statistical group has developed a business model that builds on close collaborations with our scientist partners which incorporates consulting, training and automated statistical solutions. Incorporating all three components in our collaborations with scientists synergizes the impact a statistician can have in the drug discovery, research and development processes. This talk will use an example of how our collaborations with research scientists, and the implementation of the three components, led to the development of a customized and automated statistical solution to the analysis of longitudinal data from standardized pre-clinical studies. The execution of our business model has successfully leveraged the role of statistics to greatly improve productivity, efficiency, and quality for both the statistician and the scientist.
