Abstract:
|
What is the impact of "Freebies" on run production in Major League Baseball? Let Freebies be defined as when a team walks a batter, commits an error, allows a stolen base, balks, issues a passed ball, throws a wild pitch, or hits a batter. Data from the 30 Major League Baseball teams was collected for the 2003-2012 seasons. It was determined that for every two Freebies committed by a team led to one additional run being scored. Coefficients of determination for the regression models studied indicated that on average 52.82% of the variation in run production was explained by Freebies.
