Abstract:

The theme of this discussion will be disease modeling for wildlife. Statisticians often develop models for human diseases, but modeling wildlife diseases presents additional challenges, including small sample sizes, high levels of missing data, short time series, and low specificity and/or sensitivity. In spite of these challenges, theoretical ecologists have developed mathematical models for some diseases. One theme of the discussion will be the incorporation of mathematical models for disease into statistical models of disease data. Everyone is welcome; statisticians who study spatial or spatiotemporal patterns of wildlife, human or wildlife disease patterns, or integrating mathematical models and statistical models may be particularly interested in this discussion.
