Abstract:

In this talk I'll discuss some recent work extending R to visualise large datasets in the range of 10's to 100's of millions of observations. I'll talk about both how we might want to display this much data (as obviously scatterplots won't work), and how to efficiently compute with this much data in R. Key to efficiency is breaking down the problem domain into independent components that can be computed on in isolation: binning, smoothing and visualisation.
