Abstract:

Simple linear and curvilinear relationships among variables are usually easy for modelers to detect, using either correlations or graphical analysis. However, many biomedical and engineering problems model inherently non-linear phenomena, and such exploratory tools are of little help in detecting relationships. We propose a nonparametric coefficient of determination which can identify many of these relationships and demonstrate its application using SAS.
