Abstract:

Statistical applications are diverse and have been applied extensively in various settings of academia, businesses, and government. The role and demand of statistics is ever increasing in making data-driven decisions with computational power and methodology. The purpose of this session is to have a discussion on the application of statistics that has played a critical role in innovation, research advances, and shaping policy, and then answer the question as to what more could be done. What steps must statisticians take to lead the way in harnessing information and enhancing the visibility of the field of statistics across diverse audiences?

Panelists are the experts from various statistical disciplines with extensive experience leading academic programs, shaping clinical trial design, and providing statistical consultations on diverse statistical topics. They will discuss their experiences of statistical application in interdisciplinary collaborations and the profound impact it can make in decision making. The Year of Statistics in 2013 is a perfect time to outreach and bring forth the ideas as to what more we can do as statisticians to create visibility of our discipline.
