In celebration for the COPSS 50th anniversary, this session consists of a distinguished group of statisticians who are past recipients of one of the COPSS five awards (the Presidents' Award, the Fisher Lecture Award, the Elizabeth Scott Award, the FN David Award, and the Snedecor Award). The panelists will provide presentations on their reflection of historical developments, current challenges , and future research directions in a diverse range of areas in statistical science. They will discuss whether and how to maintain and develop the intellectual core of statistics , and the role of theoretical work in both grounding statistical sciences in its foundations and helping to enable its future advances. They will discuss statistical methodological developments and applications in numerous scientific disciplines, such as biological and health science, genetics and genomics, information science, social science, and public policy.
