Abstract:

Regulation of active proteins in a cell is critical for normal functioning. Control over this regulation is complex and occurs on many levels. Here, we focus on epigenetics, the heritable modification of gene expression without a change to the DNA sequence, and how it affects transcription. Epigenetic modifications include DNA methylation, chromatin remodelling and expression of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). These modifications form part of a complex interplay that, if disrupted, may lead to disease states such as cancer. In this talk we explore the interaction between different types of epigenetic modifications and how they differ between normal and cancer cells using a prostate cancer model.
