Abstract:
|
The nature of survey research has been changing in recent years with the evolution and proliferation of personal mobile computing devices, including smartphones and tablet PCs. The popularity and utility of these devices provide researchers with more opportunities to interact with respondents. Smartphone applications (apps) have the potential to offer a robust set of features to researchers, allowing for instant data capture and real time insights from a panel of users across multiple devices, platforms and operating systems. Such is the case with SurveyPulseTM, by RTI International, an app designed to deliver surveys to users and collect data in real time.Despite the benefits, the boom in the creation and availability of apps brings the potential for saturation and fatigue. In addition to panel fatigue, app abandonment on the part of the user is a serious challenge to maintaining a survey panel. In doing so, researchers must ensure that the app itself doesn't get lost among many others. This presentation focuses on the development and pilot testing of recruitment tactics and user experience enhancements meant to provide benefits to SurveyPulseTM users and keep them engaged.
