Abstract:
|
The Bay of Fundy, located between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada, with a small portion touching Maine, U.S.A., is world famous for its high tides (as much as 17 meters). The incredible energy in these tides has significant potential for extracting power for generating electricity. Scientists around the world are considering in-stream tidal turbines for harnessing tidal power. Given the complexity of the physical phenomena, we use a computer simulator (complex numerical model) to emulate the tidal power as a function of the turbine locations in the Bay of Fundy. In this talk, I will focus on the sequential optimization of the tidal power simulator for finding optimal location for placing tidal turbines in the Bay of Fundy.
