Abstract:
|
As illustrated by examples ranging from simple plots to modern petascale scientific visualizations, statistical graphics are not just a means of communicating results visually; they are also tools for revealing structure in complex data and processes that would be difficult to discover by other means. We give some examples to motivate the use of graphical visualization methods in data analysis, and relate the three following presentations to the overarching theme of the session.
