Abstract:

Aalen's additive regression model is a popular alternative to Cox's PH model in event history analysis. In this paper, we propose estimators for the cumulative regression coefficients in Aalen's model which incorporate external information provided in the form of a linear hypothesis. Under an asymptotic integrated-quadratic risk criterion, we show that such estimators are more efficient than the least squares estimators as well as the restricted estimators which rely completely on the given hypothesis. We confirm this theoretical efficiency by using Monte Carlo simulation study with small sample sizes. We also illustrate the methodology through application to survival times of patients with primary billiary cirrhosis.
