Abstract:

We review milestones in Paul Meier's career as a statistician, scientist, educator, mentor, and colleague, focusing mainly on his years at the University of Chicago. In addition to the advances in statistical theory and practice for which he was responsible, he also made lasting contributions to the scientific method, to the adoption of statistical ideas by diverse scientific disciplines, to the institutions with which he was affiliated, and to his students, colleagues, friends, and community.
