Abstract:
|
David Blackwell's impact on probability and statistics is evident to all. From the celebrated Rao-Blackwell theorem, to careful work with stochastic processes, to delightful urn schemes, Blackwell's work is characterized by results that go directly to the heart of a problem. The directness and simplicity (once explained) of his arguments both inspired much research and made him an extraordinary teacher. In this talk, we show the influence of his work on the theory of queues.
