Abstract:
|
Statistical literacy is consider a core skill for a literate 21st century citizen. Education for these skills is supposedly covered by the mathematics sections of the Common Core standards. However, there is a large disconnection between mathematicians, speaking in an ideal language of an ideal world, and applied statisticians, the "extension agents" working with real data, real people and real problems. Examples from Common Core assessment development teams, the International Statistics Literacy Project and adult education in industry will highlight the issues.
