Abstract:

This work analyzes the outcomes of the English Premier soccer League matches played in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011. We propose various ranking models for teams in the league. The work further investigates the relationships that exit amongst the three outcomes of the game. It is observed that there are significant correlations between wins and losses, with no such definite pattern of relationship between drawing and any of winning or losing a match. Our models may be used in predicting the ranking of teams in a tournament similar to the English Premier League.
