Abstract:
|
Cobb (2007) suggested that the teaching of statistical inference is needlessly complicated. As a result, significant advances have been made in the use of randomization tests and other simulation-based methods for teaching inference in an introductory course. These advances have given rise to some core questions that need our attention. Should simulation-based methods be used in lieu of more traditional methods? Can simulation-based methods co-exist with a more traditional approach? What should I remove from the curriculum if I choose to use a simulation-based approach? The authors will reflect upon such questions and will share their experiences in using a simulation-based approach to introduce the essential concepts of statistical inference.
