Abstract:

Prediction and analyzing factors of the outcome are the key tasks of sports statisticians. As in any other field, regular linear regression may not be adequate to see the comprehensive picture in the analysis of sports data. Quantile regression can be used to provide a more complete view between the outcomes and the predictor variables. In this paper, I will discuss the significance of quantile regression in analyzing cricket data. In particular, I will use quantile regression to analyze the effect of the different factors towards the end result of the game and to analyze the auction prices for the players in IPL (Indian Premier League).
