Abstract:
|
We compare the effectiveness of rootograms and hanging rootograms as alternatives to the histogram for comparing data to known distributions. We performed a perceptual study using Amazon Mechanical Turk, and frame the problem as a graphical inference challenge: picking the real data from plots of the null distribution. As well as comparing the effectiveness of the histogram, rootogram, and hanging rootogram, we also compared the performance of the human mind to classical statistical tests.
