Abstract:
|
Statisticians play an important role in international development. Working in developing nations presents both opportunities and challenges that should be considered before getting on the plane. During this session we will explore both the role of statistics and the soft skills (such as handling cultural diversity) involved in collaborative research projects with colleagues in developing nations.
This session will be led by Mark Griffin, founder of the Australian Development Agency for Statistics and Information Systems. ADASIS is a Non-Government Organisation dedicated to providing training and consultancy in statistics and information systems for developing nations in the Asia-Pacific region. Mark is the conference chair of the annual Joint Oceanic Conference for Statistics and Information Systems, where the first conference in this series was held in Fiji in 2011 and the second conference was held in Papua New Guinea in 2012.
