Abstract:
|
Total cost and projected spending increases on entitlement programs such as Medicare and Medicaid are concerns that must be addressed to maintain the nation's long term financial health. The influx of retiring baby boomers and the improvement in healthcare with its impact on long term care costs are important factors that influence the amount of funds necessary for states and the federal government to set aside for these programs. It is imperative that the root causes of the escalating costs be identified in order to pose solutions to spiraling costs as well as ascertain ways to estimate costs and how to fund them. The discussion will focus on these issues. Government health care policy has a direct impact on the costs of bringing innovative drugs to market as well as the ability to fund research and development.
