Abstract:

The propensity score is the probability of a unit receiving treatment conditional on observed covariates. The propensity score, if orrectly estimated, allows one to design and analyze non-randomized studies to approximate randomized studies. If the propensity soccer is correctly estimated, all observed baseline covariates will have similar distributions between treatment groups. In this talk, we will discuss some popular methods in assessing balance for baseline covariates to see whether the propensity score has been correctly specified, and highlight the limitations of these methods. A new method with the aim to overcome these limitations will be proposed, and its properties will be examined through numerical simulations.
