Abstract:

This talk will introduce the Conway-Maxwell-Poisson (COM-Poisson) distribution as a flexible count distribution that allows for over- or under-dispersion. More than a generalized Poisson distribution, it also contains the geometric and Bernoulli distributions as special cases. I will discuss the associated statistical properties, and developments in various applications (e.g. regression analysis, control theory, etc.). Time permitting, I will also introduce a COM-Skellam distribution and regression (i.e. a generalized form of the Skellam distribution that also generalizes the difference of Bernoulli and geometric distributions, respectively) as a tool for paired comparisons.
