Activity Number: 188
Type: Contributed
Date/Time: Monday, July 30, 2012 : 10:30 AM to 12:20 PM
Sponsor: Section on Physical and Engineering Sciences
Abstract - #304247
Title: Distributions for Three-Dimensional Orientations
Author(s): Melissa Bingham*+ and Dan Nordman and Stephen Vardeman
Companies: University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Iowa State University and Iowa State University
Address: 2617 S 26th St., La Crosse, WI, 54601, United States
Keywords: Three dimensional orientations ; Rotation data ; Uniform Axis-Random Spin distributions
Abstract:

Three dimensional orientation data are common in areas such as materials science and human kinematics. Based on an intuitive, geometric construction, development of distributions for modeling such data will be discussed. Advantages of these distributions and inference techniques will be considered.
