Abstract:

Alternatives to Cox's regression model

Cox's regression model is the standard model in survival analysis, and the model has many nice properties. One can extend Cox's regression model to deal with non-proportional hazards, and simple and useful goodness-of-fit tests exist for the proportionality assumption. In practice it is less common to use some of the alternative models that exist to learn about summaries of the data. I will review some of the available alternative models such as the additive model and combinations of additive and proportional terms. All these models are non-proportional and can thus show us other sides of the data. The additive model in turn provides us with simple and flexible models, that are based on additive excess risk and are thus simple to interpret on the probability scale.
