Abstract:

In this roundtable discussion, the focus is on learning and teaching pre-analysis steps such as exploring data distributions, detecting outliers, and deciding what to do about missing values. Vignettes of mentoring and consulting situations that provide teachable moments relevant to this topic will be presented for consideration. This roundtable discussion promises to yield some interesting ideas about how we can improve statistical literacy by considering these issues when planning curricula, teaching courses, and creating data analysis plans for research. Both students and educators are encouraged to attend.
