Abstract:

A single-sample procedure for obtaining an optimal confidence region for the largest and the smallest means of several correlated normal populations with a common unknown variance and a non-negative correlation coefficient is proposed. This is common when experimenters repeatedly receive several treatments in an experiment. For independence case, the proposed confidence region is compared to a class of non-symmetric intervals and the results show that the proposed confidence region has the shortest width. We also propose a design-oriented two-stage confidence region with a pre-assigned interval width in each individual interval under correlated normal populations. At last, the confidence region is applied to three real-life examples, which provides useful information to decision makers who are dealing with real world problems.
