Abstract:

After years of preparation by several involved agencies and organisations, Sweden's first fully register-based census was conducted in 2011. Statistics Sweden is responsible for the quality of the census statistics, and this paper addresses the methodology and some preliminary results from studies which were designed to assess the quality. A system of registers is being built to make continuous production of official register-based statistics on demography, employment, occupation, living conditions and housing possible. Most of it concerns the population of individuals, but register-based statistics on household and family populations as well as the population of buildings and real properties will also be feasible. The quality of the data sources used for new statistics on households is of particular interest.
