Abstract:

Websockets define a simple and efficient bi-directional communication protocol for the Web. The R websockets package implementation provides easy to use socket-like connections between R and modern web browsers. We discuss the use of R and websockets to build dynamically updated and interactive visualizations delivered through the web. We also discuss building elastic R web services that easily scale to manage increasing numbers of clients.
