Abstract:
|
Evidence-based changes are planned for DSM-5 psychiatric disorders. For example, in substance use disorders, dependence and abuse criteria are being proposed to be combined as measures of a singular dimensional continuum of disorder. Another example is a new disorder named complicated grief which is being considered for inclusion. This talk explores the role of factor analysis and item response theory in assessing the nosology of psychiatric disorders, suggesting changes to existing DSM diagnosis criteria, and its potential usefulness and limitations in developing valid and reliable diagnostic criteria.
