Abstract:

While monitoring the Google ecosystem, we found close correlations between weather's changes and unexpected dips and surges of various top-level Google metrics. In this paper, we have explored several time series models to quantify weather's impact on internet and mobile usages. We aimed to model the impact as a function of temperature deviations, with both rain and snow considered. Furthermore, we have discovered that the impact varies by season, by day of the week, by country, by devices, and by types of search activities (for example, shopping vs reading news).
