Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to propose a marketing application of Markov chain model by using shopping path data. The RFID-enabled shopping carts are being put into practical use within some Japanese supermarkets for the purpose of tracking customers' shopping footprints and collecting shopping path data. We propose a method to analyze the customer movement in a store based on Markov chain model, so as to discovery useful knowledge for store managers and marketing stuff.
