Abstract:
|
In this paper, the concept of relative risk, which is usually defined as the ratio of two incidence rates, is generalized in two directions. One is for ordinal response variables, and the other is as a summarization of different relative risks. The generalized relative risk using the proportional hazards model is a generalization of the Mantel-Haenszel estimator, and can be used as basic statistics to reflect the relationships between a response variable which can be categorical, countable, continuous or binomial and the covariates in a study. The concept of survivorship function used in survival analysis is generalized for ordinal responses as well. Examples are given to illustrate the generalized concepts and the use of survival analysis in social and economic studies.
