Abstract:

This effort uses data from the School Crime Supplement(SCS)to analyze bullying at school and cyber-bullying anywhere.Bullying and being bullied at school has increasingly become a topic of interest for researchers from a variety of disciplines,as well as policy makers, law makers and educators.Research provides evidence for short- and long-term psychological difficulties and social relationship problems for the bullied and bullies.Bullying and being bullied can lead to physical violence behavior and gang related activities. The SCS is the supplement to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS)and has collected data on bullying biennially since 1999.Using a variety of questionnaire items related to the topic of interest, the goal of this work is to provide trend analysis over time and analyze most current SCS data available(2009 data available for the author December 2010).This work is aimed to identify the current state, and changes over time,in the occurrence of bullying at school, cyber-bullying anywhere, and fear and/or avoidance behaviors of victims of bullying. The preferred method of analysis is t-tests and regression using statistical analysis software packages SAS and STATA.
