Abstract:

During translation messenger RNA produced by transcription is decoded by robosomes to produce specific polypeptides. Recently, a second generation sequencing methodology was developed that measures the position and counts of ribosomes. When combined with corresponding mRNA sequencing data, ribosomal data can give insights into translational efficiency. I will discuss issues that arise when analyzing such data, including normalization and testing hypotheses. I will demonstrate competing methods of analysis on a set of data that are available to the public and by simulation.
