Abstract:

A tool has been developed to perform quantitative risk assessments. It is comprised of several component models, each with numerous parameters describing possible scenarios. Distributions of parameter values based on published scientific literature, Government reports, or subject matter experts are used in the models. Uncertainty in parameter values increases when knowledge gaps exist. A prioritization scheme is developed to identify parameters for further study/review that could decrease parameter uncertainty and increase accuracy and precision in results. Sensitivity studies assess the impact of each parameter on each component model; results are synthesized and used to further assess the impact of selected parameters on overall results.
