Abstract:

Perhaps it is time to delete or reformulate topics in the first statistics courses which have become obsolete or in need of revision because of changes in technology and other developments.Excel's BINOMDIST makes obsolete the need for the normal approximation to the binomial and the widespread use of statistical software calls into question how much on the computational development of regression needs to be included.Separate chapters on simple and multiple linear regression with different formulas in the two chapters is redundant. This material needs to be recombined in a single, coherent chapter. The tests of hypotheses on one population when the variance is known, almost never occurs. Other problems with material in this area are noted. The recent USCOTS conference on "Letting Go to Grow" can be considered.Participants will be given a list of some sugested topics and may offer others.
