Abstract:

The number of recurrent colorectal adenomas from a colorectal polyp prevention trial is often measured by performing colonoscopy known to miss a small percentage of existing adenomas. As a result, number of recurrent adenomas could be miscounted and recurrence status could be misclassified. In addition, some participants might not comply with the schedule of follow-up colonoscopy scheduled to be performed once at the end of the study and, therefore, have variable follow-up lengths compared to the compliant participants. We develop semi-parametric mixture models that can handle misclassification at follow-up colonoscopy and develop robust statistical methods to incorporate the length of follow-up into the semi-parametric mixture models while estimating the prevention effect.
