Abstract:

In this project, we develop a penalized-likelihood method to graphically explore the form of statistical interaction (GxE) between a genetic and continuously-varying environmental risk factor for a disease, with data from a case-parent trio study design. The method offers the advantage of allowing the data to suggest the functional form of the GxE, while guarding against bias due to population stratification. We illustrate the use of the method with simulated data. Time permitting, the method will also be applied to real data from a study of childhood leukemia.
