Abstract:

Guitar Hero is a series of popular video games that most college students are familiar with. Because of its current popularity, it can be turned into a fun multi-staged project to introduce statistical research for students in upper-level undergraduate classes such as Mathematical Statistics. The project consists of different stages such as developing the research question ("Are missed notes grouped together in parts of a song?"), programming in R, collecting data, estimation, and hypothesis testing - including statistical power. An example method with supporting R code is provided.
