Keywords: Directional Data ; Rotation matrix ; Crystal Orientation ; Matrix Distributions
Abstract:

This roundtable group aims to discuss inference problems and statistical methods with orientation data arising in physical sciences. Possible discussions could encompass directional data on a circle (e.g., modeling 2-d wind directions), data in the form of 3x3 rotation matrices (e.g., modeling crystal orientations in metal surfaces or motion markers), or orientation data described by other special manifolds. Discussion can begin by describing problems where the analysis of orientation data is of interest (e.g., materials science) and gravitate toward modeling aspects of orientation data as well as development of statistical methodology (e.g., hierarchical Bayes methods for 3x3 rotation matrices).

The address information is for the authors that have a + after their name.
